Beginner’s Tips for Email Marketing

• Include a ‘subscribe’ button on your website. This will give visitors to your site the opportunity to submit their email address to you in order to receive email updates and information.

• Create and send a regular e-newsletter (weekly, monthly, quarterly depending on how much your business has to report). This should include extra news and information that is not necessarily available on your website.

• E-newsletters should include a number of varied articles that will interest the reader. Combine more sales-driven pieces with general interest. Recipients should be incentivised to receive and read your emails.

• Make your email subscribers feel special. An exclusive special offer limited only to those that have received your email can be very effective. Just make sure you have the resources to deliver your special offer to every email recipient should they take it up.

• Write an attention-grabbing email subject line that will make recipients want to open your email. Hinting at the content is a great way of getting people to seek more information in the body of the email (special offers in particular are very effective).

• Include relevant links to your website where recipients can seek further information.

• Consider the design and layout of your email or e-newsletter very carefully. You want it to be eye-catching yet not too busy. Images are always a great accompaniment to text.
