Since the launch of Google+ pages for business no longer than a year ago, many of us wondered how long it would be before Google+ business pages and Google Places were merged into one. Well, it was announced today that today is the day it happens!
Google Places pages have now been completely replaced by the new Google+ Local pages. Starting today around 80 million Google Place pages belonging to companies worldwide have been migrated into Google+ Local pages as stated by Google’s Marissa Mayer. This is a drastic change and although in our opinion it is for the better, there is no doubt there will be many disgruntled business owners.
So here is a small breakdown of changes with the arrival of the new Google+ Local pages:
The old, boring static Google Places pages have been replaced by the more dynamic Google+ pages. Also the star rating system has now been replaced by the Zagat 30-point rating scale, this also applies to user reviews too.
So this is a big change, and some will find it a little difficult to get used to but it is change for the better. And in true Google style I am sure there will be many updates to shortly follow.
