Many people and web design agencies now use WordPress as a fully fledged CMS for their website or for clients’ websites. I personally create most of my clients’ sites on WordPress due to its amazing functionality, flexibility and ease of use for my clients. For a business, or web designer wanting to develop a brand, something that is worth considering is branding the wordpress admin section. This would mean that instead of the default WordPress logos, colours and text, the user would experience your brand.
This can be done by adding some code to your functions.php file and then creating custom CSS yourself. See this post for styling wordpress admin and this post for styling wordpress login. But if you don’t want to mess around with too much coding, that can be achieved more simply with wordpress plugins.
White Label CMS is our favourite out of this list simply because it offers the best functionality. White Label CMS allows complete customisation of dashboard panels and logos, removal of menus, giving editors access to widgets and menus.
It also allows you to add custom logos to the header and footer as well as the all important login page, giving your client a better branded experience of their new website.
AG Custom Admin comes in a very close second to White Label CMS and has nearly the same functionality with a slightly less intuitive admin.
AG Custom Admin lets you hide and change many of the WordPress admin and login pages. You can edit the admin bar, footer text, remove screen options, help options and Favorites dropdown menu. You can also have full control over the main admin menu by adding or removing buttons. It also gives you nice colouring options so you can have control over background and text colours.
Custom Admin Branding has less functionality than the other two and is a little bit more simple. But if you don’t want all the bells and whistles, then this may be the choice for you. Custom Admin Branding lets you display custom images and styles for the login screen, admin header and footer. Although this plugin does require you to have a little CSS and HTML knowledge.
One handy thing about this plugin is that is does come with Photoshop templates to help you on your way!
